I was gifted my very first puppy (a white Teacup Poodle named Bugs) as a 6 year old little girl. I was given the sole responsibility of learning to care for him in various ways, proper brushing between grooms being one of them. Throughout my childhood, there were numerous occasions where my mom and I would groom him at home and I enjoyed and cherished these moments so much. From a very young age, this instilled in me the importance of proper coat care and maintenance in addition to allowing me to learn some of the basics of dog grooming. Fast forward to high school when it was time to step into even bigger responsibilities such as securing my very first job, I quickly knew I wanted to plant myself somewhere where I could learn more about this dream I had always had. As fate would have it, I was offered a job at the dog grooming salon I had taken my precious Bugs to all those years. This is where my love for grooming grew even deeper. I learned a lot of core values in how to operate and manage a successful grooming business and I developed strong connections which still play a huge role in my success today. While I was working here, I met Lane and at a young 19 years old, I married him and shortly after I moved an hour away to live with him on his family farm which is now home to The Porch Poodle! The vision for The Porch Poodle came to me after losing Bugs in October of 2020. That loss became the perfect setback which ultimately prompted me to do something more, to finally follow my long instilled ambitions of becoming a business owner which grew from childhood. So during a period of mourning the great loss of my beloved childhood pet and best friend, my dream of becoming a business owner finally came true - The Porch Poodle was established. When forming a business name, one of my favorite memories of Bugs came to mind - you’d always find him in sunny spots, one of them being the front porch of my childhood home where I grew up with him. When he’d be let outside to potty, he’d come back to the porch and sun bathe in the warm sunlight. Remembering him there brings so much joy and peace to my heart and that feeling led me to naming my business after his favorite sunny spot - The Porch.
The success of my business is a constant reminder of my sweet Bugs and the core of my business is built upon the most special memories of him throughout my childhood.
